Crossroads in Time Sculpture Garden
Artwork by Sculptor Steve Teeters
Dedicated October 13, 2004

Giant monoliths, a plow that touches the sky, a fence too tall to climb, and a whirlwind tornado…  all overlooking historic Yellowhouse Canyon in Mackenzie Park.  Lubbock’s new sculpture garden celebrates 100 years of art, architecture, history, heritage and culture in our area and is the culmination of planning by the Millennium Advisory Committee .  This seventeen-member group was appointed by the Lubbock City Council in December 1999 to study and recommend how to commemorate the history, culture and heritage of Lubbock and the South Plains region.  Local sculpture Steve Teeters of St. Eligius Studio is the artist for the garden, and Parkhill, Smith and Cooper, a full-service architecture and engineering firm, are the consultants.  The original pieces featured in the sculpture garden are 15-20 foot high metal structures, which depict icons of the Old West and historical life on the plains. In 2003, ALON USA’s President and CEO, Jeff Morris, stepped forward with $150,000 to assist in the construction of the amphitheater in Mackenzie Park.  Because of their generous support, the Crossroads in Time Sculpture Garden is being named in their honor.
